Soon to be launched, the Human Resources for Health (HRH) Learning Hub, hosted in the Centre for Gender Studies at Bayero University Kano, is a one-stop platform for learning and resources on successful HRH interventions in Northern Nigeria.
The Hub offers:
- · short courses, both face-to-face in the Centre for Gender Studies newly refurbished premises, and online
- · learning visits to successful intervention sites
- · research, advocacy and technical expertise
- · access to a resource library to support learning
“The Hub offers health professionals and managers across Nigeria the opportunity to learn from experts and understand the evidence, practical solutions and experience of successful interventions supported by the W4H programme to increase the number and quality of female health workers in the North and adapt and implement them to fit the context in their states”, said Dr Fatima Adamu, National Programme Manager of W4H.
The Hub has hosted several learning visits to successful W4H interventions sites such as health training institutions implementing the Foundation Year Programme, a basic access course and sponsorship programme supporting rural women to achieve the qualifications they need to enrol in professional health training.
Professor Aisha Abdul-Ismail, Chair of the Steering Committee for the HRH Learning Hub, and Director of the Centre for Gender Studies at Bayero University Kano said, “Participants of learning visits can see first-hand how health training institutions are implementing successful strategies to achieve accreditation and make it possible for rural women to become health workers.
The Hub aims to transform Nigeria’s health workforce by providing access to learning, evidence and advice to support the production, recruitment and retention of health workers, particularly female health workers in rural and conflict-affected areas.
The HRH Learning Hub and the Centre for Gender Studies collaborates closely with the Faculties of Nursing and Community Medicine in the College of Health Sciences and the Centre for Advanced Medical Research at Bayero University Kano.
